HCCA’s Health Promotion Framework
Published: 2023
Purpose
- This document is the framework which supports HCCA’s purpose to empower consumers to have control and understanding of their own health and increase their awareness of, and ability to influence control over, the social determinants of health in our communities.
- HCCA recognises that health is a fundamental human right and it is the essential foundation of social and individual development. According to the World Health Organisation, health is a state of complete physical, social and mental well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. HCCA strives to foster good health and wellbeing by ensuring that our health system meets the needs of consumers throughout the different stages of life.
- HCCA recognises that health promotion is a practical approach to achieving greater equity in health. HCCA advocates health promotion based on the principles of the Ottawa Charter and subsequent Charters and the Jakarta Declaration. HCCA’s systemic advocacy work is essential to achieving a more efficient, accessible, equitable, consumer-centred and responsive healthcare system that achieves better health outcomes for ACT communities and region.
