We provide a wide range of training for consumers, community groups, community services, health services and health professionals.

You can find upcoming training sessions listed on our Events page.  We can also deliver one-off training sessions tailored to the needs of your group or service. Please contact us for more information, or to discuss a custom training event.

Consumer Participation Training

This training is for people who want to learn more about the ACT health system and possibly become consumer representatives on health committees. The training is free and runs over two days in-person or online. People can share their thoughts and experiences about ACT health services, learn about consumer participation and how it benefits the health system. 

In this training, you will learn more about: 

  • How to navigate the ACT health system – what’s available and how to use services 
  • Saying safe in the health system – understanding the risks of health care 
  • Health advocacy for yourself and loved ones 
  • What systemic advocacy is and how to do it 
  • How to become a consumer representative on a health service committee, and the skills and knowledge needed for this role

Consumer Representatives Training

Consumer representatives are the voice of your community in the health system. Learn how you can participate and become a representative in this course. This training is free and runs over one day and is a shorter version of Consumer Participation Training. It is held online or in-person. Health organisations can also request training for consumers joining committees. In this training, you will learn more about: 

  • Health advocacy for yourself and loved ones 
  • What systemic advocacy is and how to do it 
  • How to become a consumer representative on a health service committee, and the skills and knowledge needed for this role

For the Community Sector

We offer practical workshops for community sector workers who want to better support their clients and service users.

We can provide workshops on:

  • Health literacy – what is it, why it matters, and what you can do about it
  • Navigating the health system
  • Managing medications
  • Safety in health care
  • Working with multicultural communities
