As the Multicultural Liaison Officer I ensure that HCCA has a focus on connecting with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups and increasing their health literacy levels. We conduct information sessions for interested community groups about Navigating the Health System, Understanding Medicare, After-Hours Primary Health Care Options and Advance Health Care Planning. Our information sessions aim to deliver information, but also to collect comments, concerns and different issues raised within these groups when accessing health services in the ACT which are feed back to the ACT Health Directorate.

At HCCA, we provide opportunities to connect with Canberra’s diverse communities are including community consultations, focus groups, community forum, consumer representation training and information sessions.

We work with CALD groups and marginilised groups to identify consumer needs around health infrastructure development, and to raise awareness of the health infrastructure development within the community. HCCA feels very privileged to be able to provide vital health information to these groups and most of all I enjoy getting to know the community who always open their doors to let HCCA in. We will continue to provide more information to more groups because “there is nothing about us without us.”
